What is Montessori method of education?

It was developed by Italian physician Maria Montessori and is based on a model of human development. It follows 2 basic principles-

1. Children engage in psychological self-construction by means of interaction with their environments.

• Mixed-age classrooms
• Student choice of activity from within a prescribed range of options
• Uninterrupted blocks of work time, ideally three hours long
• A constructivist or “discovery” model, in which students learn concepts from working with materials rather than by direct instructions.
• Specialized educational materials often made out of natural, aesthetic materials such as wood, rather than plastic.
• A thoughtfully prepared environment where materials are organized by subject area, are accessible to children, and are appropriately sized.
• Freedom, within limits
• A trained teacher experienced in observing a child’s characteristics, tendencies, innate talents, and abilities

What is Play Way Method of Education?

The Play Way method of education focuses on overall development of children. It helps children develop subjectively and emotionally by focusing on development of right feelings, intellect and skill parameters. As the name suggests, the main driving force for this method is Playing. Like the Montessori method, this method also helps build creativity amongst children while encouraging use of expressions.

Few advantages of using Play Way methods are:

• Intellectual Parameters: This method boosts creativity in children by providing them with opportunities. And when a child is more curious, he/she learns more!
• Emotional Parameters: Play helps in stabilizing the emotions of children. They can overcome shyness, moodiness, timidity, stress and sensitiveness.
• Social Parameters: As children get a chance to play and work with others, they learn to coordinate, wait for their turn, to take the lead and to follow.
• Physical parameters: As movement is a key pillar of this method, physical fitness of children is given as they are actively involved in play.
• Development Parameters: As they say- “ Play is the highest form of research”, this method helps children explore numerous opportunities to grow and develop.
• Educative Parameters: Play-way has educative value as it provides opportunities for children to learn. It is a great motivating force for a child. Play-way activities are based on the needs of the children. It follows learning by doing and practice, which is very much more effective than orals. Play-way assures maximum freedom for the child with the result that he/she develops creativity and imagination skills.
