How to get your child ready for Pre-School?

A preschool marks the beginning of a new life for the toddler and it is no different for the mother too, in most of the cases, since the routine of a mother revolves around her little one.

As a parent, you can never be fully confident if your little darling is ready to hit the school but the truth is YES. The 3 year old, who is frolicking from one room to another, wearing a shirt with blobs of different water colors on it, carrying a fluffy paint brush in his/her hand, finding another wall to paint, imagining himself/herself as a Picasso- is yes ready to be a preschooler! The effervescence of a child is profusely evident through the minor things he/she wants to achieve.

Since the online galore has taken over, it has become more than difficult for us mothers to make our child learn with the same zeal and penchant. Every now and then we find our toddlers fidgeting with toys and fragile pieces kept on the table while we get busy with cooking or arranging the decor of our house.

Imagine what happens when we keep our 3 year old kid in front of the laptop, the kid either falls asleep on the couch or gets engrossed in his or her daydreams. Whatever it is, studying or focusing is the last thing on a child’s mind.

It’s a dilemma, yes!

But as parents, we have a greater role to play here:

to make our kid get ready for preschool. As parents, we always have the tendency to keep our child under our wing. However, the truth is a little different: your child wants to explore and discover the fantasies of the world. With that the most important thing which we need to train our child with, is patience and consistency. It’s not easy to sit in front of an iPad for a good 4 hours unless the ‘wheels on the bus’ is being played on YouTube.

It’s not a lot of efforts that we need to put in a child to make him or her ready for the preschool, as a parent we are making these efforts on a daily basis by default. However, yes a child must learn to sit and focus.

The focus can be learnt by making the child with you for good long hours while you run different slides on a projector for him/her, or make him learn through swapping learning cards. The colours, flamboyance and vibrance of the activity will catch the attention of the child.

Every night your child might have adamantly asked you to read him/her a bed time story. While it was just reading two pages for you, the child was developing different skills alongside, such as imaginative skills, creativity being inculcated in your little one’s mind as he/she comes across different characters and plots. This also has helped your child in learning new words and maybe in some cases your toddler has also recognised the alphabets, if they had a chance to peak into the book.
