• TEACHER AND STAFF : Teachers are responsible to shape your child for tomorrow thus parents should at least be known to the teachers their child would be studying with and whether or not they are kind and supportive towards kids. Along with the teachers, you should also make a visit to other staff members such as peons and maids to familiarise yourself with the people your child would be surrounded by.

• ASSESSMENT AND DISCIPLINE : While selecting a preschool parents should know about the modes and methods of a particular school and if their ward is capable enough to grasp their teaching methods. With this, you should also look out for what their grading systems are and how they evaluate every child. Pre schools that focus more on overall development rather than only academic development is important. With this, it is also necessary to know how efficiently the pre-schools practice discipline. Discipline is very important and should be inhibited in a child from an early age for which selecting a school that teaches this in a right manner becomes necessary.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE MY CHILD FOR PRE SCHOOL?

• PRACTICE SEPARATION : Taking admission in pre schools we often see children facing separation anxiety as it is their first time outside in the world with a bunch of unknown people and that too without their mom and dad. We come across children crying and struggling without parents and it is normal. What you can do before admitting your child in a preschool is try leaving them alone every once in a while or asking them to spend a night at some relative’s place without you. This will develop a habit in them to stay away from you and get exposed to the unknown environment. This exercise will be helpful to them.

• VISIT THE PRE SCHOOL : Once you enroll your child in a pre school, arrange field trips for them before the school starts. Make them friendly with the school environment by visiting their classroom and their campus. You can also make them meet their teachers before the school starts. This will help them beat the fear of unknown and wouldn’t be much of a hassle for them and even you.

• PRACTICE SELF HELP SKILLS : Children who are able to take care of their personal needs even a little bit, do better in pre schools than those who can’t. Teach them to be little independent in doing their personal chores such as washing their hands, putting on shoes by themselves. Some pre schools also expect children to be toilet trained hence that should be taken care of from the parent’s side.

• SOCIAL CONFIDENCE AND COOPERATION : Not all children are outgoing and open towards people. There are certain kids that are quiet and it becomes difficult for them to engage in a social setting. Hence parents should help their child gain some confidence by letting them meet and hangout with other kids in the park and encourage making new friends. With this, preschool activities and games often require children to work in groups with their fellow classmates. Thus children should be taught to work with other people and show cooperation and support towards their team members.
