Germinating seeds : The future in our hands

“Each child is unique and needs special care and love”

The evolution and growth of our young ones is just like the process of germinating seeds, with time they grow into spectacular and responsible individuals. But how? What’s the process? Is it an easy-peasy way? Well, the evolution from seed to plant takes an ample amount of time, care, nourishment, and special attention. Likewise, the development from a child to an adult is also an amicable task and an unforgettable journey.

The early years of a child’s life are very important for his or her health and development. Healthy development means that children of all abilities, including those with special health care needs, are able to grow up where their social, emotional, and educational needs are met. Having a safe and loving home and spending time with family―playing, singing, reading, and talking―are very important. Proper nutrition, exercise, and sleep also can make a big difference, just like germinating seeds phenomena. These factors determine the perfect balance required for the proper development of a child. Let’s go into the basics – Child development refers to the sequence of physical, language, thought and emotional changes that occur in a child from birth to the beginning of adulthood. During this process, a child progresses from dependency on their parents/guardians to increasing independence. Child development is like germinating seeds concept and yes it is strongly influenced by genetic factors (genes passed on from their parents) and events during prenatal life. It is also influenced by environmental facts and the child’s learning capacity. The optimal development of children is considered vital to society and it is important to understand the social, cognitive, emotional, and educational development of children. There are various definitions of periods in a child’s development since each period is a continuum with individual differences regarding starting and ending. The most important factor in child development is that children receive nurturing care just like germinating seeds.

Nurturing care ensures a child’s environment is focused on their needs, health, nutrition, safety, education, peaceful ambience, emotional support, and social interaction. We can not deny that the concept of Germinating seeds is similar to that of the development of a little one into a bright future. Our children arrive to us in similar circumstances: future yet to be revealed, cultivation required immediately. The nurturing that a child needs to blossom comes first from the home and family into which they fall. But, when we begin to raise a child we cannot know what sort of ‘ground’ will be best for them, because we cannot know what sort of ‘flower’ they have the potential to become. Just like gardeners, parents need to love and commit themselves to nourish the germinating seeds like kids. From providing safety, kindness, teaching open-mindedness to play and so much more. We’ve to create opportunities for our children to discover who they are, what they are good at, and what and whom they love. Good early childhood development will have a direct positive impact on a child’s long-term health outcomes and will improve future opportunities, school attainment and even earning potential. As we know a popular saying ‘A seed makes itself…But it needs help. Sometimes it needs a moth or a wasp or a gust of wind. Sometimes it needs a farm and it needs a farmer.

It needs a garden and a gardener. It needs you.’ When we water and nurture the germinating seeds we plant, we are fostering opportunities to help our children connect with thoughts, ideas, and curiosities. Every thought can be developed and expanded upon. This is how we help our children formulate, ponder, and question their thoughts and ideas to create inquisitive minds in our future generations. Particularly important is the impact of this period on a child’s emotional and social development, which is vital for their future confidence, communication, relationships, community inclusion, and mental health. Children with adequate support in their early years are healthier, better educated, and more likely to contribute to society and the global economy.

‘Commitment to the development of a child is the catalyst to enable children to thrive, and thereby transform into a great human potential.’
