5 Skills your child must develop before 5

Gone are the days when parents imposed their dreams and desires over children as early as those little feels entered school! Yet scoring good academically and establishing a name in society are prime focus even today.

Does this really work?

The answer is a clear big “NO”!

As grown ups we understand that it’s not just bookish knowledge that helps us survive through this not so easy life.

“Children do learn what they live. Then they grow up to live what they have learned”-Yeah this is actually the case. The right environment and right skills inculcated in very formative years of child’s growth aids in producing finest adults.

I was always a studious brilliant girl in school and college, a sincere dentist at work but yet I failed to manage my emotional skillset. Hence in today’s high tech world the children must be groomed well physically, mentally and emotionally from the very beginning. I have tried to cut it short and put my views in subtly.

The sooner…the better!! By

Try inculcating following skills by the time little sweetheart reaches milestone of 5 years:-

1. Evoking thoughts and establishing communication skills.

  • Teaching children “how” to think and not what to think.
  • Let them ask questions and promote this habit by rewarding kids- Be a model for them. Children learn what they see, hence modelling good practices is a great tool.
  • Listening to others- Children must learn to listen patiently, observe and then react. “Children will listen to you after that feel listened to”.

2. Fine Motor skills and fulfilling basic needs on their own-

  • Drawing, sketching, reading, singing, dancing, running etc.
  • Child must be able to realize when he\she is hungry and must try to fetch or at least ask for it.
  • The habit of wearing clothes, putting on shoes, taking care of one’s belongings.

3. Solving problems and social interaction-

  • Stop spoon feeding your child. It’s not necessary that each and every trivial problem of the child needs to be solved by the parent/teacher.
  • Let the child struggle with the problem for a while before you intervene.

4. Freedom to play-

  • The child expresses its soul when he/she plays! Let him/her be free and play in an organized or unorganized way.
  • Let them fall and get back up on their own.
  • Let them make mistakes and correct them.
  • Let them laugh, shout, and sing.
  • Play helps children develop large-motor and fine motor physical competence, explore and make sense of their world, interact with others, express and control their emotions.

5. Independence-

  • Let them be all by themselves sometimes.
  • Let them see the rights and wrongs themselves.
  • Show trust in them and their decisions.
  • Let them be happy on their own.

Such skills spiced up with discipline can make better humans out of your beloved child. Success and prosperity go hand in hand with a balanced mind, you see.
